Making Play-doh

I thought I’d found a healthy balance over how much time the boys were spending in front of the TV; that was until Sonny’s latest birthday wish-list included Nelli Kelli shoes, Fabreze, Bratz, and Calgon.

Another favourite advert is for Play-doh, so after much nagging we decided we’d make our own.

I don’t think they were expecting me to get out a pan and some ingredients (judging by the fact Sonny was stood at the door and Luca had settled into his buggy), however their initial disappointment was quickly forgotten when I suggested they could help me ‘cook’ it.

Despite Sonny’s aggressive stirring and Luca’s tendency to eat the ingredients, it did actually work.

Im not sure what the daily recommended intake of salt is, and when I googled it, it didn’t give any measurements in play-doh weight, but it turns out the foam emanating from Luca’s mouth tasted great on chips!

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 CUP OF FLOUR
  • 1 CUP OF WATER
  • HALF A CUP OF SALT
  • 2 TBSP OF CREAM OF TARTAR
  • 1 TBSP OF OIL

INSTRUCTIONS

  • MIX IN A PAN
  • HEAT ON THE HOB
  • ADD FOOD COLOURING

  1. Fun eh! I was a little confused when I first made playdoh as I didn’t realise you cooked it. I heard you can make awesome colours using jelly crystals too so I’m planning to give that a whirl soon. Great pics

Ha, the boys did try playing with it uncooked! Jelly crystals sounds great, will be giving that a go on the next batch. Thanks for reading and your lovely comment.

  2. Wo was Janet’s hair cut so bad you had to shave it off? Looks good. That story really made me smile, thought it would make a good blog post but mum said you still weren’t seeing the funny side… Where are you now just so I know?
The imagination tree blog has loads of good play doh recipes FYI,

  3. What have you done to Sonny’s hair? It didn’t look that bad – you could have had the blue hair clips from our set 🙂
Hope you are all good, we tried making Playdough ages ago but it just didn’t work – maybe we should give it another whirl now its hols time xx
